The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Health Care Practice is a 4 years programme.

However, registered Medical Assistants may apply for Credit Transfers and enter into Year 2 of the programme. They will be able to complete this within 3 years.

This programme is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Assistant Medical Officers (Medical Assistants) nationwide. The programme includes a wide range of subjects that examine scientific, social, political, economic, ethical, and organizational issues in health care, which address implications for individual practice and public policy.

Graduates of this programme will be effective managers, leaders and practitioners in delivering holistic care. The focus will be the application of theory into practice as graduate demonstrate critical thinking skills in their leadership, managerial and practitioner role. The emphasis will be on emergency care, community health and counselling skills.

This programme has incorporated clinical placements which will enable students to gain relevant skills required by the Healthcare Industry. A research component in the curriculum will enable students to contribute new knowledge in the field of Health Care.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Practice (Hons) programme fills a gap in the current job market by preparing graduates to tackle the needs and priorities of clinical practice, evidence-informed decision making, health promotion, illness prevention, current management concepts, leadership, and patient-centred care, as outlined by the Board of Medical Assistant, Malaysia.

Entry Requirement

Entry to Year 1

Higher School Certificate (STPM) with minimum GPA of 2.33 in two of the following subjects;

Biology, Physics/ Mathematics, Chemistry.


A-Level or its equivalents with a minimum Grade D in two of the following subjects;

Biology, Physics/ Mathematics, Chemistry.


Diploma, (Level 4 of Ministry of Health Malaysia) in a related field with minimum CGPA of 2.75.


English Proficiency (non-Malaysia candidates):

IELTS (min. 5.5 / TOEFL (min. 515 / 215 /80)


Credit Transfer into Year 2 Sem 4

Diploma in Medical Assistant without experience CGPA 2.75

Diploma in Medical Assistant with 3 year experience CGPA less than 2.75

Registered with Medical Assistant Board Malaysia and has a valid annual practicing certificate

IELTS (min. 5.5 / TOEFL (min. 515 / 215 /80)

Career Opportunities

Upon completion of this programme, graduates can work in Hospitals and private health care facilities as Healthcare Practitioners. They can also be employed in Nursing homes, Mental Health Facilities, Healthcare Portals, Health Insurance Companies, Medical software companies, Medical and Health Administrators, Colleges and Universities and other Health and Allied Services. As registered Medical Assistants, upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Practice (Hons) programme, graduates may be considered for promotion in their respective workplace in either clinical or administrative posts.
