The Intensive English Programme at MAHSA University is specially designed for students who aim to improve their English language proficiency to a level equivalent to around IELTS 5.5 – 6 or CEFR B2. This will enable students to further their studies at the diploma and degree levels. Therefore, this Programme is for students who have a basic proficiency in the English Language and need to improve in their language competence from the Beginner Level to the Upper-Intermediate Level. The emphasis is on the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The programme involves fifteen hours a week of intensive immersion into the English Language environment via innovative, creative and interactive classroom activities. A systematic build-up of teaching and learning strategies supports the learners’ holistic development of English language fluency and accuracy. The learning tasks involve lots of interesting and fun group work, oral presentation, project work, attending writing and speaking clubs, drama and simulation.

Students will be guided through the Beginner Level to the Upper Intermediate Level after which the IELTS Entry Level and IELTS Advanced Level courses will be offered to prepare them for the IELTS Examination. The main objective of the Intensive English Programme is to nurture students to be competent in their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills which would render them as effective communicators of the English Language.

Entry Requirement

Students enrolling into the course will have to sit for The Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT). This test will return results based on the Common European Framework Ratings (CEFR) that are comparable to other standardised tests like IELTS. The results of this test will determine their levels of proficiency and the classes they will enter.

English Elementary

English Pre-Intermediate

English for Academic Purpose is tailored to prepare students for the IELTS Examination in which a minimum band score of 5.5 is required for entrance into the MAHSA University’s Degree Programmes.
